HOW TO MAKE KOLLU KULAMBU OR HORSE GRAVY

KOLLU KULAMBU  OR  HORSE-GRAM GRAVY


     Hi friends...  How is your day going?.  My day is going pretty good.  I am going to share a recipe named Horse Gram gravy (Kollu Kulambu), Which is very healthy and delicious recipe, which was prepared using horse-gram.  The scientific name is macrotyloma Uniflorum.

I learned this recipe from my Grandma.  This is one of our "Traditional Recipes"

HORSE GRAM:

  • Is Good for Health.
  • Keeps our body warm during winter days.
  • Good for digestion.
  • Helps in weight loss.
  • Used in Ayurvedic Medicine.
     I prepared this Kollu Kulambu in my own way . It is Slightly different from original recipe,  Which was also delicious to eat.  For clear understanding I have shared process shots.  Do try this recipe and let me know how much you liked this dish.







INGREDIENTS:

  • Horse Gram - 100 g.
  • Garlic - 15 cloves.
  • Coriander seeds - 2tbspn  
  • Cumin seeds - 2tbspn                               
  • Red chilli - 5 (Dried Red Chilli).
  • Tomato - 1 (medium)
  • Black peper corns -1/2 tspn
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
  • Oil - 2tbspn
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
  • Salt - As Required
  • Curry leaves - 2 Sprigs.
  • Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup
  • Medium size Shallots - 5
  • Terminate Extract - 10g 
  • Water - As Required.

PRE - PREPARATION:

  • Wash the Horse Gram in water to remove any dirt or some small sand particles.  Then Soak the Horse Gram  in Water and Leave it over night or atleast for 8 hours.  
  • The next day Boil the Horse Gram in water for about 15minutes.
  • Filter the Horse Gram form water and transfer them to a bowl.
  • In a mixie jar add in Coriander seeds, Red chilli, Tomato, Cumin seeds, Black pepper corns, Garlic, Boiled Horse-Gram and grind them to a coarse paste.


PREPARATION:

1. Heat a pan and add a 2tbspn of oil ,  When the oil is hot add in mustard seeds and curry leaves and chopped onion, coriander leaves, and saute it for about 3 -minutes.

2. Then add turmeric powder and salt and cook well.

3. Then add the grinded paste and tarmarind extract. Mix uniformly if need add water to a requried consistency.

4. Then close the lid and cook completely in low flame. 

5. When it comes to boil turn off the flame and Transfer to a Bowl.  Then Serve with white Rice and Enjoy.

STEP BY STEP IMAGES:

Heat a pan with water,  Once boiled add in soaked Horse Gram and cook for 15 minutes. or else you can use cooker to boil the Horse Gram for about 5 whistles.














In a heated kadai or pressure pan add oil then add mustard seeds, chopped onion and curry leaves, coriander leaves.  Saute it for a minute.

















Then add turmeric powder and salt.  Mean while prepare the Horse Gram paste by adding all the ingredients as given in pre-preparation.













Now add the prepared  Horse gram  paste  and tarmarind extract and mix uniformly. If need you can add water to a required consistency.















Now close the lid and cook completly in a medium flame. Once it comes to boil turn off the flame and transfer to bowl. 












 Enjoy with White Rice.
